How did you come up with your business name? How you decide which one of your ideas is the best? What are the factors involved?

For a small business that’s depending on one person, using their name is good strategy. For instance, if you’re a plumber, then Mike’s Plumbing is good because people count on Mike to do a good job. On the other hand, if you’re trying to look like a big company servicing thousands, then Mike’s IT service might not be the best name. In that case, a more professional name would make sense, like National IT or something similar. I remember the movie Wolf of Wall Street. He chose a very old, bankish sounding name (Stratton Oakmont) for his firm. Also good strategy, even if it was devious.

I agree with Tina, when it came to our company Konnect’d we are dealing with connecting agencies in Korea so we did a little wordplay. We took the K from Korea and Onnect from Connect and got Konnect’d. It brings together both our concept and our message for what we want to do. You want something that people will recognize but also represents you. This will brand your company so make it count!

There are some company and brand names that really resonate with the product and their clients but those are a little harder to create and be exactly perfect.
Although the name is important I don’t think it is the MOST important thing. Look at Ben and Jerry’s, that was literally their names. They made their company brand big which made that name of their company known. They were known for their product and then the name came big. If you can be creative with your name that is good too but don’t overstress about it. As long as your name makes sense for your company and you have a good product you will be fine.

Great thing about a name is that you can always change it need be later. Although it is a process if you decide on something else you can go with that idea. Good thing about owning your own company 😉

    Hello
    I know some amazing
Now it is very important to have your own business. But creating a business is very troublesome and requires great knowledge and care. If you still decide to create your own business, then do not be afraid to turn to professionals to help create it. Each jurisdiction may have it’s own legal requirements and customs, thus, requiring an assistance of qualified agent or commercial lawyer to finalize company registration.

I usually start the process by understanding what we do. Looking for names that convey that understanding. I also consider links to the technology I am using. When I started Lightwave Microsystems we were building the first optical waveguides for use in telecom. When we started a company doing training and education over satellite we became ETNetworks.

Use your whole team to come up with names.
