Contract Questions

Hello All! I have been active online and found this group of people that seem to be the perfect fit for a project I am working on. They have the skill set I need and we get a long well.

Hiring people from places like fiver makes it easier to contract work since you are going through a company. But if I have to build my own contract are there steps I need to take? These are more unique circumstances. Is there a certain type of contact I should/should not use? Do I need to meet them in person or if I send them a digital copy to sign would that work as well?

There are plenty of resources online that can either help you to build a contract or even build a contract for you. There are a few main parts that actually go into the writing of one so for your first one I would recommend that you get assistance so you make sure that all your bases are being covered. Also digital signature can work you just need to use a send it in a way to get verified signature. I know adobe has the feature and it is what I use when sending them online. There are other online services that solely focus on getting signatures as well.

You can be as formal or informal as you’re comfortable with, although it’s best to have something in writing because it spells out what each party is responsible for. Without it, you’ll have problems if you have any kind of dispute – even the simple kinds that don’t involve lawyers. If everyone knows what’s expected from them, then there’s far less opportunity to encounter misunderstandings. Misunderstandings create confusion, delays and bad feelings, at best – and at worst they could ruin a project. There’s a million places online to find sample agreements no matter what you’re working on, so find one, and cut out the stuff that doesn’t apply to your situation, then use that as a basis for your working relationship. You’ll be happy you spent a little extra time getting your crap together, and it will show when you have less problems with contractors and jobs go smoothly.

Are there any templates that you would recommend? I know that I can just write one myself but I want to make sure that I do it right the first time. I wouldn’t want to ruin a project because I forgot something. I will do some research to see what I can find online, but any recommendations would be great.

Honestly you can google templates but it’s hard to recommend one because it depends on what you were looking for. Contracts are very specific depending on what you need so looking up the details and specifics that you plan to be included would help. Also there are people who specialize in making contracts so if all else fails contact someone for help.
